AI company Anthropic is expected to complete a new funding round next week, raising over $30B to invest in further growth, Bloomberg reports. According to the news agency, this new funding round would value Anthropic at more than 900 billion dollars.
This valuation would make Anthropic, known for its chatbot Claude, worth more than its competitor OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT. In March, OpenAI completed a funding round of 122 billion dollars, which valued that company at 852 billion dollars.
Anthropic also raised 30 billion dollars in new capital earlier this year, at which time the company was valued at 350 billion dollars. Anthropic reportedly aims to launch an initial public offering in New York later this year. OpenAI is also said to be planning a stock market launch, with an application potentially being submitted soon.
Led by chief executive Dario Amodei, Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees. Its investors include Google, Nvidia, Amazon, and Microsoft. Anthropic also recently secured a major deal with Elon Musk’s aerospace company SpaceX to supply computing power for Claude.
