Coalition parties D66, VVD and CDA have reached an agreement on the budget following days of negotiations, insiders have confirmed, following earlier reports by NU.nl and NOS. The agreement still needs cabinet approval, which is scheduled for 6 pm.
The cabinet held several rounds of talks with opposition parties over two weeks, with JA21 and the SGP visiting most frequently. Reports surfaced last week that the cabinet aimed to secure an internal agreement before finalising deal details with opposition parties. Negotiators initially faced a deadline of last Friday, but extended the timeline to Monday evening after failing to reach a resolution.
No opposition parties have signed onto the agreement, leaving the government without a majority in either the House of Representatives or the Senate. Part of the internal conflict stemmed from differing strategic visions. D66 and the CDA preferred partnering with PvdA and GroenLinks (PvdA/GroenLinks) on the left, whereas the VVD favoured working with JA21 and the SGP on the right. The final budget details will not be officially released until Prinsjesdag (Prinsjesdag).
