Hundred day countdown to DE OPENING

Eindhoven has officially launched the countdown to DE OPENING, the three-day festival marking the national start of the cultural season. With 100 days to go, organisers gathered at the Next Nature Museum in the Evoluon to share the first details of the programme, which runs from 28 to 30 August.

The festival succeeds the traditional Uitmarkt and will transform Eindhoven into a large stage for theatre, music, dance, and visual arts. National and regional artists such as Fresku, Jimmy Nelson, Treasure, PhilZuid, The Ruggeds, Joël Borelli, and NITE are already confirmed to perform. Events will take place across the city at various public spaces, cultural institutions, and on two free main stages at Stadhuisplein and the Markt. A special museum ticket will also give visitors access to all participating museums in Eindhoven.

Although Eindhoven is the main host city this year, the cultural launch is a nationwide event. Institutions in several other cities, including Apeldoorn, Venlo, and Leeuwarden, will also participate. The entire weekend will conclude with a live broadcast of the Musical Awards Kick-off on the television channel NPO1.

During the launch event, Eindhoven Mayor Jeroen Dijsselbloem and festival chairman Jacques Kuyf discussed the vital role of culture in modern society. Dijsselbloem noted that while many people associate Eindhoven with technology and innovation, culture reveals the soul of the city by bringing people together and offering new perspectives. Kuyf added that the festival aims to be more than just a weekend of entertainment. He stated that the event encourages people to open up their worlds, creating much-needed spaces for connection and imagination in a changing society.

Organisers also launched the official festival app during the presentation. The app provides the full programme, route maps, and artist profiles. It also offers exclusive online content, previews, and competitions, while encouraging users to discover new art forms outside their usual interests.

Guests at the launch event received a brief preview of the upcoming line-up. Performances included musical talent Michael Muyderman from Hugo de Groot the musical, singer-songwriter and former city poet Iris Penning, and breakdancers from the Cypher Active Crew from Emoves. The full programme is now available through the official festival channels.
