Severe thunderstorms will sweep across most of the country, bringing heavy downpours, hail, and strong wind gusts. Meteorologists warn that localized flooding could disrupt travel and damage property as intense rain falls within short periods.
Heavy rain and hail to hit southern provinces first
The storm front will enter the Netherlands from the south on Thursday evening before moving rapidly northward. Weather experts predict wind gusts reaching speeds of up to 60 kilometres per hour during the peak of the storms. Additionally, the system could produce hail with stones measuring up to 2 centimetres in diameter. Emergency services urge residents to secure loose outdoor items and clear drainage paths to mitigate localized flood risks.
Code yellow active across all Dutch regions
The KNMI expects hazardous weather conditions to affect different regions in succession throughout the night. Code yellow will activate across all provinces in the course of Thursday evening or during the early hours of Friday morning. Forecasters advise motorists to exercise extra caution on roads due to sudden poor visibility, standing water, and potential debris.
