Prime Minister Rob Jetten and his partner Nicolás Keenan are expecting a child in 2027, the couple announced on Instagram on Monday. Accompanied by a photo displaying an ultrasound scan, they expressed immense gratitude to their egg donor, their surrogate mother Lisa, and their families.

The couple shared the announcement in Dutch, English, and Spanish. Keenan, who originates from Argentina, plays hockey in the Netherlands for HC Klein Zwitserland. Jetten described the pregnancy as a dream come true, while surrogate mother Lisa said she was incredibly happy to help make that dream possible.

Jetten and Keenan have been together for several years and announced their engagement in November 2024.

The social media announcement generated a wide range of responses. LGBT rights organisation COC congratulated the couple, describing it as wonderful news. However, reactions on X were more critical, with some users posting negative comments regarding surrogacy. Earlier this year, Jetten stated that he reports homophobic abuse weekly and faces daily threats linked to his sexual orientation.
