Regional transport employers make new offer to unions

Regional transport employers sent trade unions a new proposal on Wednesday morning in an effort to restart talks on a new collective labour agreement. The Association of Public Transport Employers (VWOV) has given the unions until 1 p.m. to respond.

Trade unions FNV and CNV confirmed that they had received the letter and were studying the proposal.

If the unions agree to resume negotiations, employers want them to take no further industrial action for the next six weeks.

The unions held their first nationwide strike in urban and regional transport last Wednesday. A second nationwide strike is planned for Thursday.

Employers took an initial step on Tuesday to bring the unions back to the negotiating table. VWOV then contacted the unions and drew up a new proposal, a spokesperson for the association said.

Talks on a new collective labour agreement for public transport stalled in July. The agreement covers 13,000 employees, mainly bus drivers working for companies including Arriva and Transdev.
