The amount of organic farmland in the Netherlands grew again last year, according to figures from Statistics Netherlands (CBS). By 2025, organically certified land increased by 3.1%, bringing the total area to 86,900 hectares.
A net total of 2,500 hectares was added over the year, meaning that organic farming now accounts for 4.8% of all Dutch agricultural land. However, this is still some way off the government’s target; the Ministry of Agriculture aims to have 15% of the country’s farmland managed organically by 2030.
On average, organic farms grew in size to 45.3 hectares, which is an increase of 1.6 hectares compared to 2024. This continued growth follows a long-term trend, as the total amount of organically certified land in the Netherlands has risen every year since 2015.
